Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Building, University of Delaware
The project consisted of the construction of a 200,000 SF multi-story Integrated Science & Engineering building on the campus of the University of Delaware. One wing of the building houses instructional classrooms, laboratories, seminar rooms, and commons area. The second wing of the building houses research laboratories, core facilities, service/loading areas, a Class 10,000/1,000/100 Clean Room, and associated offices. A partial basement houses mechanical/electrical equipment rooms. Rooftop penthouses house the building’s air handling units and Fluid Coolers. Laboratory exhaust will be vented via a manifolded exhaust system.
The Mechanical Equipment consists of:
(10) Air Handling Units (276,000 cfm total)
(1) Laboratory chiller (480 tons)
(2) Fluid Coolers (480 tons)
(10) End Suction Pumps
(15) Lab Exhaust Fans
(1) Duplex Lab Air Compressor
(1) Duplex Lab Vacuum Pump
(3) Steam Fired Domestic Water Heaters
(1) 200 Gallon Domestic Water Storage Tanks
(1) RO/DI Water Skid
The building has been designed to meet LEED Silver certification and includes items such as green roofs, solar film on roofing and heat recovery from lab exhaust.
