Project Overview

The Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital is a new long-awaited hospital for Berkeley County. This new 130,000 SFT community hospital is the first building of this 35-acre master site which also includes an 80,000 SFT medical office building.

The new hospital includes a 24-hour Emergency Department, Cardiology, Critical Care, Endoscopy, General Surgery, Imaging and Lab space, Mother and Baby Center, Urology, Oncology, Orthopedics, Physical Therapy and Primary Care.

Bell’s scope of work included all work associated with the new mechanical and plumbing systems. The mechanical package was procured by Turner utilizing a design assist approach, allowing for an early engagement of subcontractors and a phased component GMP approach to fast track the design and the construction of the facility.

Mechanical features include:

  • Eight (8) Semi Custom Air Handling Units totaling 156,000 cfm
  • Three (3) Hot Water Boilers totaling 9,000 MBH
  • Two (2) 350-ton Water Cooled Chillers
